A law graduate from Madrid University, Eduardo also holds a degree in Economic Sciences from the London School of Economics and a Finance Degree from the University of Paris. His professional working life started with the BBC, followed by the appointment as Financial Assessor to RENFE (Spanish National Railways). At RENFE he was responsible for the strategic planning and budgeting of their modernisation program. Being the Economics Director of the Latin American edition of The Economist brought him back to London.
Eduardo Punset Casals’ political experience started in 1977 when he was appointed Technical General Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Energy for the autonomous government of Catalonia in Spain. He became Counsellor of Economy and Finance for the same government, two years later. From 1987 till 1994 he was a member of the European Parliament, holding the Presidency of the Delegation for Poland and Vice President of the Delegation of Hungary.
Eduardo addresses international audiences on a broad range of subjects, using insights gained through many years experience as a top level politician.
Eduardo is the author of several books on economic analysis and social thought. At present he is Professor of Science, Technology, and Society at the Facultad de Economía of the Instituto Químico de Sarrià (Ramon Llull University).
Since 1996, he has directed and presented Redes, a science programme based around interviews with leading scientists, aired on the TVE. He is also the president of the audiovisual production company smartplanet and Board member of Sol Meliá Hotels & Resorts.
