Biography
A respected newsreader, Emily Maitlis is known primarily for her work with the BBC.

Early Potential
Emily Maitlis was born on the 6th of September 1970 in Canada, but soon moved to England with her family, where she attended King Edward VII School in Sheffield. A bright and capable student, she went on to attend Queen’s College at Cambridge University.

Career
Before starting work with news presenting, Emily worked for six years in Asia, making documentaries for NBC. Her ability to speak multiple languages made her an ideal choice for such roles; she can speak Spanish, French and Italian fluently and can speak a certain amount of Mandarin. In 1997, she and Jon Snow presented the transfer of the sovereignty over Hong Kong on television.

Emily returned to the UK and began to work as a business correspondent for Sky News before moving to BBC London News in 2001. She has also presented BBC Breakfast and appeared on numerous other shows, including STORYFix, a faced paced news bulletin which aimed to summarise the most pressing current affairs.

In 2005, Emily worked on the National Lottery game show ‘Come And Have A Go’, on which she quizzed players.

Current Work
Emily currently works as a BBC Newsnight presenter along with Jeremy Paxman, Gavin Esler and Kirsty Wark. In addition to this, she is also a regular or relief news presenter on several BBC channels, including the BBC News Channel and BBC One.

Personal and Charitable Interests
Emily lives in London. She is married and has two sons named Max and Milo.
