His best known work Competing for the Future (1996) with the late CK Prahalad, introduced the world to the concept of core competencies. His latest book, What Matters Now, was published in 2012. Always motivated by real, human problems he argues that the organisations of the future need to be truly fit for the human beings that work in them by constantly adapting and innovating.

He recently founded The Management Innovation Exchange (MIX) which is aimed at reinventing management for the 21st century and hopes to provide a platform for the world’s most progressive business leaders to share their ideas.
