... when he covered Formula One for the Sunday Express, BBC and Independent Radio, Mark acted as a consultant to major sponsors Canon and Marlboro before joining the fledgling Jordan Grand Prix team in 1990 to announce its entry to F1 in 1991.
Later becoming marketing director of Jordan in 1998, when the team scored a maiden 1-2 victory in the Belgian Grand Prix, he was part of the highly successful management that oversaw the team’s most successful period in Formula One, before leaving to join Jaguar Racing in 2004.
In 2005 he established his own racing team, Status Grand Prix, to compete in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport, the team claiming victory in the 2008 South African and Mexican events, winning the award for being the Best Presented Team in all three seasons to date and establishing itself as the benchmark team in terms of its pit crew’s speed and efficiency. The team has also successfully competed in the famous Le Mans 24 Hours with a privately entered Aston Martin, achieving a top 10 finish.
Mark also runs his own sports marketing company which he first established in 2003, providing consulting and management services to companies and drivers involved in Formula One, including 2008 BMW Sauber F1 Team driver Christian Klien who is also one of Peugeot’s star drivers in the Le Mans 24 Hours. In the UK he regularly appears on Sky News, BBC and Channel 4 whenever there are topical Formula One’s business and sporting issues.
During his career in motorsport Mark took three years out of Formula One to work in the British and World Rally Championships in the early 1990s, including time spent with the Ford Motorsport and Subaru World Rally teams, where he worked with drivers including the late Colin McRae and rally legend Ari Vatanen.
But it is in Formula One that Mark has gained his vast experience at the pinnacle of the sport, working directly with drivers including Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher and Damon Hill. He was also part of Jenson Button’s management team, and manages Jordan F1 driver and 2007 Honda Super GT sportscar Champion Ralph Firman.
Aside from giving a fascinating insight into Formula One, Mark talks on specifics including team work, motivation and leadership, while health and safety, risk management and the use of technology to gain competitive advantage are among the topics he is frequently asked to speak about.
With a relaxed, anecdotal and humorous style, Mark has been a prolific public speaker for 10 years and has spoken at major conferences and corporate functions worldwide.
