Platini is also vice-president of the French Football Federation (FFF). Platini has been a UEFA Executive Committee and European member of the FIFA Executive Committee member since 2002. He served on the UEFA Technical Development Committee from 1988 to 1990, and is now the UEFA Executive Committee representative on this committee. He is also on the Clubs and Leagues Working Group.
Platini played for AS Nancy-Lorraine, AS Saint-Etienne, and Juventus FC, earning the accolade of being one of the world’s top stars. he made 72 appearances for France, scoring a record 41 goals and captaining his country 49 times. He finished leading scorer in Italy's Serie A on three occasions.
In 1987 Platini was appointed the French national coach, which he relinquished after the 1992 European Championship.
In 1998 FIFA World Cup, Platini again answered his country's call. He accepted the challenge to work as co-president of the French Organising Committee alongside Fernand Sastre, who had masterminded the French bid.
He was voted European footballer of the year (Ballon d'or) an unprecedented three times in succession, in 1983, 1984 and 1985 and became World Footballer of the Year in 1985.
Michel Platini was appointed as "Chevalier" (Knight) of the Légion d'honneur in 1985 and became "Officier" (Officer) in 1988.
