The US should reconstruct its electric sector to be more distributed and digital and should look to the European Union to figure out how to do so, according to author Jeremy Rifkin.

The respected economic and energy advisor was speaking during his keynote speech at the Energy Times Empowering Customers & Cities conference in Chicago earlier this month.

Rifkin who helped Germany develop their energy strategy said that the European country’s electric grid will be 100% reliant on renewable energy by the year 2040.
