Adrian Chiles’ Background / History

Born and raised in the West Midlands, Adrian Chiles is certain his Birmingham accent has helped him to achieve his broadcasting success. He has a friendly style and a passion for his areas of interest which will prove inspirational to like-minded listeners.

The majority of people are aware of Adrian Chiles due to his appearances as a TV and radio presenter.

Adrian Chiles was born on the 21st March 1967 in Birmingham. He spent much of his childhood in Hagley, Worcestershire where he moved with his family at the age of four. Adrians dad is English and his mum Croatian. He learned to speak Croatian whilst he was growing up, though is not fully fluent in the complex language. His early interests hinted towards his later career; he was keen on sport, standing out on stage and language. After completing school, he attended the University of London to study English Literature. After completing his degree he studied journalism in Cardiff. He then combined his love of language with his love of football and became a sports journalist at News of the World

Adrian Chiles’ Career

Adrian initially started working for the BBC by carrying out work experience on the Business Breakfast show. He was successful and soon switched to working for the BBCs radio channels, working on Radio 4s Financial World Tonight. He soon moved to Radio 5 Live and had his own show Chiles on Saturday which was awarded a Sony Radio Academy Gold Award in 2002.

His television career soon blossomed and he has appeared in numerous programmes, most notably BBC 2s Working Lunch (which he presented between 1994 and 2007) and the One Show. He has presented several one-off documentaries and documentary series for the BBC, including Asian Millionaires, Working in the Dark , So What Do You Do All Day, It Beats Working, Royal Millions, and What Ron Said. Until 2009, he was the host of The Apprentice: Youre Fired! a show in which candidates leaving the show get to air their views about the experience. He has also appeared as a guest on Have I Got News For You, the quiz based on topical satire.

In 2010, Adrian left the BBC and began working as a sports presenter for ITV. He was a presenter on Daybreak (a breakfast show) for about a year. He also presents That Saturday Night Show.

For some time, Chiles was the host of Match of the Day 2. He has presented numerous sports events and provided coverage of some of the most notable sporting occasions of recent years, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics and Euro 2008. He began to work as a football presenter for ITV in 2012.

Adrian Chiles has two daughters with is ex-wife, Jane Garvey. He plays the double bass and (as his career may suggest) is a football fan, in particular West Bromwich Albion Football Club. He has been involved in a few fund raisers for Sport Relief.
