Andrew Flintoff's 2024 biography

Andrew Flintoff’s Background

From his first-class debut for Lancashire in 1995, Freddie became a key force in England’s international side, playing a major role in regaining the Ashes in 2005. His contributions to the game awarded him BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2005, and an MBE the following year.

“The BAFTA winning show, A League of Their Own, has been a huge success and is now on its sixteenth series.”

In 2010, Freddie, along with Jamie Redknapp, became a Team Captain on the Sky One sports panel show A League of Their Own. The BAFTA winning show has been a huge success and is now in its sixteenth season. Fred and Jamie’s hilarious on-screen partnership has seen the show branch out to for four Road Trip spin-offs across the US and Europe with a fifth on the way and several Christmas Specials.

In 2018 it was announced that Top Gear would return to our screens in 2019 with Freddie as co-host alongside Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris. The show aired its first season with the new line up in Summer 2019 which was met with wide-spread praise. The trio were back with a Christmas Special set in Nepal later that year and have gone on to put out a further two series with another set to air early this year.

In 2020, Freddie showed a more vulnerable side in the BBC One documentary, Freddie Flintoff: Living with Bulimia. In the powerful and unflinching documentary, he goes on an acutely personal journey into the eating disorder he has lived with for over 20 years.

He has also fronted a range of series-long challenges. In 2015, Freddie, with Robbie Savage, took to the highways for a new series, Flintoff: Lord of the Fries serving up fish and chips to the public in their eco-friendly chip van. And, 2012 saw him front the Discovery documentary Alone in the Wild. Freddie was left completely isolated without aid or a production team in the wilderness with just a handheld camera to record footage. The show was a success, spawning a spin-off series, Freddie Flintoff Goes Wild.

The following year, he embarked on a rainforest adventure for Sky One which formed part of Sky’s rainforest Rescue Initiative. He also worked with ITV2 in 2011 to produce Freddie Flintoff versus The World in which he went head to head with some of the worlds sporting greats. The following year, Freddie embarked on one of his greatest challenges, training to become a professional heavyweight boxer. This was broadcast in a documentary for Sky One, Flintoff: From Lord’s to The Ring, and ended with his victory in his debut fight at MEN arena, Manchester, against his American opponent.

Not only has Freddie built up an impressive array of TV credits, he also has had successes with radio and podcast. In 2017, he teamed up with Robbie Savage and Matthew Syed on BBC Radio ‘5 Live’ to deliver the immensely popular weekly podcast, ‘Flintoff, Savage and the Ping Pong Guy’. The podcast went on to win three times at the Radio Academy Awards for Best Podcast, Best New Show and Best Presenter for Freddie. In 2013, he fronted his own radio show for BBC Radio 5 Live: Flintoff’s Ashes Roadshow.

“Not only has Freddie built up an impressive array of TV credits, he also has had successes with radio and podcast.”

On top of his broadcast credits, Freddie has worked with several impressive long-term commercial partners including a 9-year relationship with e-retailer, Jacamo, a series of ads with Morrisons. Betstars and Babyliss men’s grooming. Freddie also fronted the successful International Cricket Council Promo for the 2019 World Cup.

Throughout his career, Freddie has written 9 books. His most recent books Do You Know What?: Life According to Freddie Flintoff and Right, Said Fred gives hilarious takes on everything from Trump to cars, the internet to social distancing and what to do when you get the Toby Carvery Gold Card!
