About Norman Smith
He started his career in regional newspapers in Birmingham and Bristol, then joining the BBC as a local radio reporter in 1986.
He moved on to become a parliamentary correspondent in 1993, he presented Today and Yesterday in Parliament on BBC Radio 4.
Since 1999 he has reported for the BBC Correspondent on Radio 4.
He was appointed to the position of Chief Political Correspondent for the BBC News channel in 2011.
Through doing this he was promoted to his current position of Assistant Political Editor in 2014. Prior to 2015, he has been a relief presenter and newsreader for the BBC.
