Robert Kiyosaki's 2024 biography

Robert Kiyosaki’s background

Robert Kiyoski, the author of Rich Dad Poor Dad, USA Today’s No. 1 Money Book and a runaway international bestseller, is also an investor, entrepreneur and educator. His revolutionary ideas about money and investment challenge conventional wisdom, changing the way millions of people invest, save and think about their money. Kiyosaki’s message to the world is that the “conventional advice” —get a good job, work hard, save money, get out of debt, invest long term and diversify—is all flawed.

Rich Dad Poor Dad is the longest running bestseller on all four lists that report to Publisher’s Weekly: The New York Times, Business Week, The Wall Street Journal and USA Today. It also held a top spot on the New York Times list for over five years running. The book has been translated into 45 languages and is available in 90 countries, having sold over 25 million copies worldwide. There are now 12 books in the Rich Dad series, including Rich Dad’s CASHFLOW Quadrant and Rich Dad’s Guide to Investing. Kiyosaki writes a column titled “Why the Rich are Getting Richer” for Yahoo! Finance and a column titled “Rich Returns” for Entrepreneur magazine.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Robert Kiyosaki is fourth-generation Japanese American. He graduated from college in New York, joining the Marine Corps as an officer and gunship pilot in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Air Medal for bravery during his service. After the war he took a sales job at Xerox Corporation and in 1977 he started a company that took the first nylon-and-Velcro “Surfer’s Wallet” to market. In 1985 he founded an international educational company, to teach business and investing to tens of thousands of students across the world.

Prior to writing Rich Dad Poor Dad, Kiyosaki created an educational board game called “CASHFLOW® 101” to help teach the financial and investment strategies of his rich father. There are now more than 1,600 CASHFLOW Clubs—game groups which are unaffiliated with the Rich Dad Company—throughout the world. In 1994, Kiyosaki sold his company and, through good investments, was able to retire at the age of 47.
