Sarah Marquis's 2024 biography

About Sarah Marquis

During the last 25 years, the National Geographic explorer has walked the equivalent of a round-the-world, exploring the wildest and most remote regions of our planet. She is also the author of 10 books. She has sold over a half million books worldwide. The explorer currently lives in a “tinyhouse” in the forest that she has built with her own hands. She has given over 500 conferences worldwide in English and French for major companies and institutions.

Sarah recently completed a 3-month expedition in the Australian Outback, crossing solo the Great Victoria Desert and the Gibson Desert. These regions are known for their lack of water and food. But she overcame this physical and logistical challenge in 3 months. The expedition is described as “crazy” by locals because of the remoteness of these extreme deserts.

2000 – Sarah walked the Pacific Crest Trail from the Canadian border to the Mexican border in 4 months and 6 days.

2002 – 2003 – Sarah will walk 14,000 km alone in the Australian Outback over a period of 17 months. 510 days walking in isolated desert areas far from roads and populated areas on the Australian continent.

2006 – Sarah crossed the land of the Incas, from Chile to Peru via Bolivia. Her footsteps followed the peaks of the Andes for eight months, covering some 7,000 kilometers.

2010 – 2013 – For 3 years, Sarah walked alone from Siberia to Australia.

2013 – Sarah wins the award for : European Adventurer of the Year

2014 – NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC – Nominated – Adventurer of the Year

2015 – National Geographic explorer Sarah Marquis has successfully completed her survival expedition to the Kimberley in north-west Australia. Over a period of 3 months from June 6, she traversed the region, feeding on bush tucker as our hunter-gatherer ancestors did, and arrived at her destination on September 6.

2018 – The quest for the Tasmanian tiger – Alone she faced the renowned rainforest weather system, and for 3 long months she progressed on the primary forest floor. Below the canopy, it’s dark and wet, and the explorer will come close to death when she falls into a gorge and broke her left shoulder.

2023 – Sarah set off again on a 3-month expedition in the Australian Outback “Back to the Origins”. A physical and logistical challenge awaited her across the deserts of Great Victoria and Gibson. The expedition was described as ” crazy ” by the locals, due to the isolation of these extreme deserts. She is currently writing her 10th book with her Paris publisher Michel Lafon publishing.
