About Stephen Sackur

Currently a presenter of the BBC’s current affairs show ‘HARDtalk’, Sackur is known for his candid interviews with some of the worlds most prominent figures on the BBCs internationally renowned HARDtalk. He also regularly contributes to political shows on BBC Radio 4 and writes for a number of publications.

Background/History

Sackur was born in Lincolnshire. A capable student, he first attended Cambridge University and then went on to study at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Prior to working in his current role, he spent three years as the BBC’s Chief Europe correspondent. Known as a straight talker and a fearless interviewer, he is also an exceptional speaker, bringing his unique style and in-depth knowledge of political and social matters to clients of all sizes, from all industries. He was the first correspondent to bring news of this occurrence to the wider world and it had a major impact on him. Feeling that he had more to share about the things he had seen and that the public needed to know more, he wrote the critically acclaimed book On The Basra Road in 1991. In 2003, Sackur became one of the first reporters to present reports concerning mass killings during the regime of Saddam Hussein following the dictators death.

Career

Having worked as a BBC News journalist since 1986, Sackur has built a solid reputation in his field and is much applauded for his early work as Foreign correspondent and then as Middle East correspondent. In these roles he reported on major events, including the reunification of Germany, the death of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, the Gulf War and Basras infamous mass killing.
