Chris Harris's 2023 biography
Chris Harris’ Background
Before Top Gear, he was probably best known for being part of the team that founded the YouTube channel, DRIVE which launched in 2012 and quickly grew to 2 million subscribers. He then went it alone with Chris Harris on Cars which he launched in 2014, but the BBC phone call meant a change of job. Chris currently presents the online car review series Chris Harris Drives for topgear.com.
With hundreds of thousands of online followers, Harris is the go-to for brutally honest, no-holds-barred automotive journalism. That’s probably rooted in his early years as a road tester at Autocar magazine – and supported by the fact that he’s pretty handy behind the wheel. He’s raced everything from single-seaters to historics and completed countless 24hr endurance races. It takes a very special car to earn the Harris stamp of approval.
That said, a long list of cars has vied for it – from brutally quick road cars like the Ferrari F12 tdf and Bugatti Chiron to impossibly exclusive track weapons like the Aston Martin Vulcan and Ferrari FXX-K. And pretty much everything else with a steering wheel.
Over the years, Harris has put his money where his mouth and bought modern classics like the Lamborghini Gallardo and Ferrari 599. But the car closest to his heart? He currently ‘has a shed full of old rubbish’ but he’s always been in love with the Porsche 911 and is lucky enough to have one as his daily wheels. But at weekends you’ll probably find him in his very tatty old 1957 Citroen 2CV.
