Biography

John Pienaar is an established British political journalist and broadcaster with extensive experience covering UK politics at the highest level. He has reported from Westminster and across the national media landscape, providing clear, authoritative analysis of government, policy and political decision-making.

Over nearly three decades at the BBC, he worked across television and radio news and current affairs, becoming Chief Political Correspondent at BBC Radio 5 Live and later BBC Deputy Political Editor. He also presented the weekly programme Pienaar’s Politics, developing a reputation for structured, informed political discussion.

His career spans reporting, interviewing and live analysis, equipping him with a detailed understanding of how political narratives are formed, communicated and scrutinised. Earlier in his career, he worked as a political correspondent for the Press Association and The Independent, and began in journalism as a trainee at the South London Press before covering crime and the courts as an Old Bailey correspondent.
