Alexandra Shulman was born in London, England in November 1957. Her father was a drama critic for The Sunday Telegraph and her mother was a writer and broadcaster. Shulman attended St Paul’s Girls’ School and later went on to study social anthropology at Sussex University.

After completing her education, she started her career as a journalist working for several publications, including Tatler, The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian.

In 1992, she joined British Vogue as an editor-in-chief. During her time there, she transformed the magazine into a fashion powerhouse, bringing in new writers, photographers and models. She also introduced new sections to the magazine, including Vogue’s “Today I’m Wearing” feature.

Shulman has been awarded several prestigious awards throughout her career, including the Order of the British Empire in 2004 for her significant contributions to the fashion industry. She was also named the most influential woman in British media by The Guardian in 2017.
