Ernesto Zedillo’s Background

  • Currently on the board of directors at Citigroup, and Director for the Center for the Study of globalization at Yale
  • Also a member of The Elders, current chair on the Natural Resource Charter Oversight Board, member of the editorial board of Americas Quarterly and a member of the Club of Madrid –
  • Best known for his creation of Progresa whilst in his presidency, fighting poverty in Mexico and subsidizing citizens who could not afford to send their children to school (this scheme was later known as Oportunidades, as renamed by president Vicente Fox)
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish for speaking engagements
