About Narendra Taneja

There are very few voices who speak on India and her future more authentically and passionately as Taneja. His expertise in India in particular and Asia in general is widely recognised.

His recent appearances include a keynote at ONS global energy conference at Stavanger in Norway in September 2022, Energy Intelligence Forum in London in October 2022 and World Policy Conference in Abu Dhabi in December 2022. (This does not include his appearances in top corporate or government meets under the non-disclosure agreements).

He founded and headed for 11 years the World Oil & Gas Assembly, often cited as the most prestigious meeting platform in the world of the 2000s, of top industry and government leaders, which included ExxonMobil star Rex Tillerson, BP supremo Tony Hayward, Saudi Aramco giants Abdallah Jum’ah and Khalid A. Al-Falih among others.

He is regarded as a great conversationalist on live platforms like TV studios, events and the annual World Energy Policy Summit. His recent guests among many include Kono Taro, former foreign minister of Japan; Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce of India; Mr Espen Barth Eide, Minister of Climate of Norway.

He chairs the think tank the Independent Energy Policy Institute and the The World Energy Policy Summit, one of the best conferencing platforms in the world. He sits on the advisory boards of the prestigious ONS Foundation of Norway and the Energy Intelligence Group of the United States among several others. Also, he lectures as a Visiting Professor at the government’s NTPC School of Business.

Taneja is also a noted conference moderator, TV conversationalist and public and political thinker. He is a regular on Indian and international TV channels in debates and conversations and has appeared in global iconic shows like the BBC HARDTalk and CNN’s Amanpour. He is a regular on channels like CNBC, Bloomberg, Zee Business and several others.

His books include “The Far People – A Norwegian Journal”, motivational “My Thoughts, My Motherland – The Quest for a Golden India” and “Meethi Dhoop”, a novel in Hindi. He is currently working on two books, including a novel in English.

He served until recently as Chairman of the Energy Security Group of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and Chairman of the Energy and Green Economy Working Group (India) of the BRICS Business Council.

Earlier, he had served as the South Asia Bureau Chief for a number of European business newspapers for over 15 years based in New Delhi. He was Managing Director of the NHST Monde Communications Pvt Ltd, a Norwegian joint venture focused on emerging economies for 5 years.

He read economics, business, commerce, policy, leadership, diplomacy and international affairs at St John’s College, Agra in India and at the University of Oslo and the University of Oxford in Europe.
