Education
A bright and talented young person, Desmond Lachman gained a B.A at the University of Witwatersrandin Johannesburg before studying at Cambridge University, where he completed a Ph.D. in economics.
Former Positions
Lachman has served in several responsible and high profile positions since completing his education. In 1984, he became a division chief of the Western Hemisphere Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), before moving on to be a senior advisor of the European Department between 1990 and 1994. Due to his ability and experience, Lachman held the prestigious position of Deputy Director of the Policy Development and Review Department at the IMF between 1994 and 1996.
He worked for Salomon Smith Barney (Citigroups former investment banking arm) as a managing director and as a chief economic strategist dealing with emerging economies. He worked with the company for seven years, between 1996 and 2003.

Lachman is a resident fellow of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research (AEI), a think tank which aims to provide independent research and advice in order to inform economic policy. He specialises in global macro-economy, multilateral lending agencies, the U.S, housing market, and global currency issues.
As a respected and experienced economist, Lachmani s ideally placed to offer education and guidance to those studying economics. He became an adjunct professor at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in 2009 and at Georgetown University in 2010.
