Mira Murati: Early Life and Education
Ermira ‘Mira’ Murati was born in 1988 in Vlorë, Albania. At 16, she earned a scholarship to attend Pearson College UWC on Vancouver Island, Canada, where she completed her International Baccalaureate in 2007. She then pursued higher education through a dual-degree program, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Colby College in 2011 and a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Dartmouth College’s Thayer School of Engineering in 2012.
Professional Journey
Murati began her career with a summer analyst internship at Goldman Sachs in Tokyo in 2011. She then worked as an Advanced Concepts Engineer at Zodiac Aerospace from 2012 to 2013. In 2013, she joined Tesla Motors as a Senior Product Manager, where she contributed to the development of the Model X. However, there is no publicly available information confirming her involvement in the early iterations of the Autopilot system.
In 2016, Mira Murati transitioned to Leap Motion, serving as Vice President of Product and Engineering. There, she focused on developing augmented reality technologies aimed at creating intuitive human-computer interactions.
Mira Murati joined OpenAI in June 2018 as Vice President of Applied AI and Partnerships.
